Foreign Affair U.S. DVD Conspiracy

Ok so you cannot, absolutely cannot buy this in the U.S. on DVD and the VHS version is expensive at $35.00 which I do not want that version. My Grandmother, who wanted this years ago indicated that Marlene Dietrich did not want to be in the movie but did it after a lot of persuasion. Not sure if that is the reason why it is not offered in the U.S. I don't know why you can easily buy this in Europe but I am very angry that you cannot get this in the U.S. after all it is a U.S. made movie. I see posts on years old on here saying they will release it shortly, so I have been waiting for the last several years. Today I finally got a working U.S. DVD movie, I will not elaborate how, but it is really too bad that I had to go through foreign routes... I think I have been more than patient. So my question is, does anyone know the real reason why this is not sold in the U.S. is it merely a supply and demand issue?

Quite readily available on DVD. If one knows where to look.

I was reading on TCM.com that the reason this movie is not available is becuase of its humorous view of post world war germany and of the nazi regime.... if you go to www.TCM.com and type in the search engine "A Foreign Affair" and choose the first result of the search there will be on the right something that says Home Video Vote and it says (A Foreign Affair - Our records indicate this title is not available on Home Video. Vote below for it to be released on DVD)....so maybe if we vote enough times it will be readily available one day!!!

I found a Region 1 version somewhere on the internet (don't remember where). The DVD plays well but the quality of the print (bad contrast or fades in places) isn't great, watchable, but not great.

I own it as part of a Region 2 set of Billy Wilder films. Every film buff should grab a region free DVD player.

Every film buff should grab a region free DVD player.

Not only region free, but it should also be multi-system (NTSC + PAL) and have the capability of playing, in addition to DVDs, such video formats as AVI and MP4.

Even better, get a BluRay player capable of all the above.
