Good and fun little flick!

This movie made me laugh. The best part of the movie, for me, was when Claudette Colbert stated that traveling with her children was not a delightful experience - when she had to do it alone.

This was not like a Chevy Chase 'Family Vacation' film - it hits a little bit closer to home. Money rules every situation here but then Colbert finds out that money can't buy everything.

She and Fred can afford the taxis in the middle of nowhere. She has servants and a big house (I think it was supposed to be 'middle-class' but who's kidding whom... They can afford sleepers on the train, until they can't buy a sleeper and have to travel coach with three kids.

That scene of traveling coach reminded me of my experience traveling coach a few years ago. Times have not changed at all, it seems. What is missing is the kindly train staff, the lower-paying positions filled by African-Americans, who came to offer to rent pillows to the travelers. And helped to set the family up so that they were sleeping on the broad seats more comfortably.

This movie had some very funny moments that made me laugh out loud. It didn't try to bring in a sloppy sentimental theme about the kids needing a dad and Fred filling that role. You could sense the beginning of that but you know it will all come later.

The film surprised me. I expected very little and enjoyed it a lot!
