Garbo in Fontaine's role

Greta Garbo was sought for the lead..but she refused because she thought she was too old for the part. So Fontaine got it.

Didn't know that. But yea, I think she might have been a bit too old for the part.

Hmm. I always thought Garbo retired permanently from motion pictures after WWII because of MGM dropping her during the war.
