Weird timing

The movie concludes on Easter 1912. That same year, one week later, the Titanic would sink.

When this movie was produced back in the late 40s, that event had pretty much fallen into the dusty corridors of history, so, more than likely, no one at MGM caught the irony of the date.

It was only later, after Walter Lord hunted down the Titanic's survivors and wrote "A Night To Remember" that the sinking to on its legendary status.

I wonder how many people note the irony in this day and post-James-Cameron-age.

Thanks for sharing this!!!

I never knew there was a specific date involved with this story - I thought it was taking place in the 'present' (which was late 1940s). When is it revealed it takes place in 1912?

I prefer fantasy over reality TV - like Fox News. - B.Streisand

The "magazine covers" have the year 1912 on them.

"1912" is prominent on numerous magazine covers and at least one (probably more) theater marquees.

What about the wardrobe? That was not 1940's fashion, especially for the women.

There is nothing ironic about "Easter Parade" being set just before the Titanic sank. It is merely a coincidence, and a meaningless one at that.
