One of the reviewers said, back in 2006, that "Irving Berlin's numbers slip year after year into public domain".

No Berlin number will ever slip into the public domain, as long as the Irving Berlin Estate continues to ensure that the copyrights are renewed at the right time.

Actually you are totally wrong. There is a legal limit on all Copyright, after which it can not be renewed.

True, but you have to remember that it doesn't apply to recordings of that music.
