Was Carol Supposed to be Older than Judy?

Stephen was totally uncomfortable appearing as a "boyfriend" to 16 year old Judy as he considered her a child but he has no qualms about falling in love with Carol. Was Carol supposed to be older? Say an 18 year old senior?

It's sort of funny that Jane Powell was actually three years older than Liz Taylor was when this film was made.

Lizzie looked older than she was. Absolutely gorgeous. Jane Powell is adorable and is even today when you see her in episodes of Law & Order, you can still see the charming and adorable person she is.

Just like a man to consider it creepy to date a 16 year old, unless that 16 year old is Elizabeth Taylor!
Seriously though, I do think Carol was supposed to be older than Judy. Maybe 17. Still creepy if you ask me, but whatever.

What's really funny is Jane Powell is 3 yrs older than Elizabeth Taylor. I don't think Powell looked very young in the film. Her hair-do made her look muh older than a love struck 16 yr old. Those songs she sang didn't help! No wonder Rock'n'Roll took off in a big way! Robert Stack is 13 yrs older than Taylor and 10 yrs older than Powell. What's was he even doing in the film??

well back then 16 was like 18 is now. they were much more mature then compared to kids these days. I always thought Elizabeth Taylor was suppose to be about 17 which is the age that girls were got married at then.

I wonder if Robert Stack, was embarrassed to be seen to be interested in an underage Girl.

MGM seemed to be pushing Elizabeth Taylor's blossoming beauty, but did it by putting so much makeup on her and dressing her so fashionably that she seemed to be out of place in this high school. But they made their point: she did stand out.

Robert Stack was a very odd choice for his character. Several times they had to insert how much older he was in the dialogue. He agrees to accompany Judy, "a kid" to the dance as a favor to his uncle and her grandfather. He has to tell Carol (Taylor) that he would like to go out with her "in a few years". Maybe they were really hot to push him as an actor or he was cast as a favor to someone. All this awkwardness could have been easily avoided by casting a younger actor.

Yes, she was supposed to be about 18 in this movie.
