Year of Publication? (1948 v. 1949)

The IMDb lists the release date for this motion picture as 1948. Yet the labeling on the videotape itself lists the publication date (aka release date) as 1949. What accounts for the discrepancy? Which date is correct?

If you still care filming was completed June 21, 1948 and the pic released Dec. 22, 1948. Now you may sing a chorus of faith that someone finally answered your entreaty.
