Wiecek's mother

The scenes with Wiecek's mother, ably, ably played by Kasia Orzazewski strike me as moving enough in parts that I feel the actress hasn't gotten enough press over the years. She was fantastic! Some of the scenes may come off a little cloying nowadays, but I'm not so sure. The scene where Stewart comes to tell her they are stopping the series of articles and we watch her reaction is heartbreaking. But what is more moving is what she does after Stewart leaves. Anyway, I am sending out a shout out to the beyond to say God Bless you Ms. Orzazewski! You were one talented lady the likes of which should have been used more.

I whole-heartedly agree. I saw this film for the first time last night on the big screen and I was really impressed with the performance from the woman who played Wiecek's mother. All of her screen time was very well-acted, especially that scene you mention where Stewart comes to tell her that thier crusade is over. I even think her performance was better/more believable than Conte's (Frank's).

good post. I have always loved the character Tillie, and never thought about the actress, in part b/c she is so believable as Tillie that I am caught up in her agony and forget about the acting.

I found her and Lee J. Cobb to have performed the best two roles in the film (even eclipsing James Stewart, which is a high recommendation!)

She was great! I looked her up specifically, and it's a real shame she didn't have a longer career.
