Is it just me or does the Charles Laughton as Janoth sound eerily like Alfred Hitchcock throughout The Big Clock? Not that I find that distracting; actually, it adds to Janoth's sinister and darkly humorous character.
Thanks! OK, so it's not just me who thinks that Laughton was channeling Hitch. And, yes, I would like to *believe* that The Big Clock won over the big man. One of these days when I'm not too lazy, I'll do some research to find out.
I doubt it. It's a pretty unrefined take on the 'Hitch thriller.' For starters there are no thrills in it. And film technique, the hallmark of a good Hitch movie, is absent completely.
You know what? You're absolutely right. When THE BIG CLOCK airs again (most likely on the TCM channel), I will view it again with a more-critical eye. Thanks for your impeccable insight.
