Bombed and broken Frankfurt at end of WWII: one soldier's story

This movie, which so vividly showed the devastation that Frankfurt am Main sustained during WWII, caused me to stumble across the following first-person account, written by a U.S. Army soldier who was in Frankfurt during the closing days of WWII. Click the link and scroll down a bit until you get to the paragraph heading of "Adventures In A Big City". It's a fascinating account of the situation in Frankfurt that goes well with this movie:

Thank you so very much for sharing this account with us, Eric, I will read it with deep interest and empathy.
This unique situation, at a so particuliar time, really moves me a lot. I'm a Swiss woman and my best friend is German by her father, who is from Berlin and remember with a lot of emotions his childhood years in the devastated town and even more devastated minds and hearts... So, yes, it especially moves me...
Many thanks again for this link ! ^_^

I'm glad I could help! It was a terrible time in human history... even today, so many years after the end of WWII, it's painful to read about the human suffering which was on an unimaginable scale.
