I was truly moved when ... (BEWARE SPOILERS)

When Barbara Stanwyck's character Polly was happy to hear that Richard Hart's character Bob Tasmin was alive when thought dead my eyes began to mist. While there was vacillation between Polly's love for her husband and her love for Bob Polly’s excitement was for more for her friend Apples (Bob's wife) at the time of the phone call. Polly's happiness felt truly genuine to me.

I agree, Polly's excitement about Bob being alive is genuine. I do not, however, get the impression she was vacillating between the two men.

Actually, I think Polly was over Bob the day she met Tom. Tom is such a different person. A man of action, he pursues things even if they scare him and, if he thinks something is right, he's willing to take a leap of faith. Bob, on the other hand, is always cautious and calculated. His life is carefully planned and he allows no deviations. Tom is more Polly's type. Even when they were having problems I don't think she ever regretted her choice.
