DVD?

Fox is pretty good at releasing films that never even made it to VHS on DVD, so why not this underrated, charming movie? It surprised me when I first saw it, not the simple comedy I was expecting but a truly warm yet serious film with humor, yes, but unexpected dramatic turns and a very real reflection of a part of the postwar scene in America. As "the greatest generation" begins to pass into history it's both worthwhile and fascinating to get a glimpse (through the eyes of Hollywood) of the challenges and opportunities they faced when they were young and just back from the war. Much different from my own later generation, and certainly from today's, even further removed from their forebears' experiences.

And featuring another wonderful (and of course uncredited) performance by the great Charles Lane!

Answering my own post, almost six years and zero replies later! Apartment for Peggy is finally being released on DVD -- on March 5, 2013. I just started a new thread on that subject, with details...which nobody will probably bother to read or reply to either!

Nice talking to you.
