Flags With a Double Allegiance

At the beginning, when Don Juan is thought to be the bridegroom for a diplomatically arranged marriage, he is given a very big public reception that includes a very big display of flags--all very beautiful, and all very fictional, as they do not correspond to any real-life community or noble house. After his return to Spain, Don Juan is put to work as fencing master of the court, and in that capacity he shows the Queen a hall decorated with what are supposedly the flags of Cortes, Pizarro, Ponce de Leon, Narvaez, Alvarado, Balboa, Jimenez de Quesada, Almagro, Valdivia, Garay and all the other conquistadores. Look carefully at those banners: THEY ARE THE VERY SAME ONES FROM THE ENGLISH RECEPTION SCENE!
