Was this film kept by Paramount?

I'd guess, that the film was actually kept by Paramount for being produced by Hal B. Wallis. This contradicts that EMKA is the owner of the film. EMKA (now part of NBC/Universal) purchased a majority of the pre-August 1948 live-action library but this film may not be in the package (the film was released in early 1949).

And of course, Paramount released a similarly named film in 1988 starring Jodie Foster (she won her first Academy Award for playing a raped woman in that film) and Kelly McGillis. Was the 1988 Jonathan Kaplan film a remake of the 1949 Hal B. Wallis produced feature? Or not?

Unfortunately the Jodie Foster film was no remake, but a rather boring film about a woman who got raped and then goes to court (I think Kelly McGillis plays her lawyer). It stirred a few waves way back in 1988, but it did not pass the test of time for me when I recently watched it again. I won't watch it a third time, but will watch the 1949 version many more times.

The Jodie Foster movies "The little Girl who lives down the Lane", "The Silence of the Lambs","Flight Plan" and "Panic Room" were much much better than "The Accused" (1988).

"The Accused" is on TCM at least once a year.
