Twelve Angry Men

Hi,

I was anxiously awaiting to see Twelve Angry Men on the dvd set. Having seen it, I'll add the following: Franchot Tone and Edward Arnold were WAY over the top in their performances. Bob Cummings gave a great performance during the first half, but he faded away/lost some of his energy in the second half (and so did the play...maybe the second reel should have stayed lost...). Overall, I still say that Twelve Angry Men is worthwhile viewing.

I liked it but it's not as good as the 1957 film IMO. Perhaps since I saw the film first, hard to get those performances out of my head. This TV version seems rushed and the actors aren't as spot on as the various types they portray. Especially the hero's opponent.

You have to remember that the TV version was basically filmed live, and they DID have time constraints. This is why the 1957 version flows better and is a much more coherent and polished final product. Not to say this early version is not good in its own right though.

I thought the live version was quite good. Cumming was indeed excellent as the token dissenter.
