Quote from the movie ???

What is the quote from the movie from? Is it the Bible? Something about the voice of the turtle heard in our land. What does that mean? Guess I'll have to look that up now !

I believe it is from the Bible in the Song of Solomon 2:12. Unfortunately, I only caught part of the movie on TCM. I also wish they would make this film available on DVD.

"Turtle" in this case (quote from the Bible) means "turtle dove."

Probably you have this info by now, or no longer care, but here it is anyway.

The quote is from Chapter 2 of The Song of Songs, aka The Song of Solomon, a highly erotic poem. This passage celebrates the return of spring, the time of love, and is therefore an excellent title for the play. Apparently playgoers are better educated than moviegoers, many of whom don't seem to understand the title. The full quotation is:

For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone.
The time of the singing of birds is come,
And the voice of the turtle is heard in the land.

This is the King James version, and Elizabethan readers understood that "turtle" meant "turtle dove".

It is sad that this movie is not available when so many worse Reagan movies are.

I agree with you. The is one of the best, if not the best, movie ever made by Ronald Reagan. It captured the feeling of that time, that place. My wife and I both love this movie and watch it regularly. I hope they will soon put this out on DVD because my dubbed Beta and VHS copies are beginning to deteriorate from wear and age. Thanks for the exact quote.
