Funny scene

I was amazed watching this in 2012 by the scene where Robert Young wakes up in the hospital after an accident and immediately smokes a cigarette offered to him by the man in the next bed! Times have obviously changed...

then most scenes, from any movie in this classic period, amuses you simply due to changing norms over time?

how interesting.

I know what you're saying but I've seen people try to smoke in hospitals, elevators, and planes even today. Smoking was more socially accepted and common then but there are still plenty of diehard smokers now. The point I'm making is smoking is still as addictive and as social as before. People who do it still act in the same ways.

Drinking (alcohol) is in the same category. The way people drink today is almost as comparable to the way they drink in old movies. It's immediately offered at a social function and it's rare to see some people without a drink in hand whenever they can.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

Sorry to say that you remember incorrectly. I've just watched the film and although he was offered a cigarette, but declined it. The man who was offering lit up though.

there is a lot of smoking and drinking in old films.

But what got me about the scene at the hospital was the off hand way the police spoke to him about his wife's death, saying something like there was so little left of the body it was hard to tell who had been driving.
