Supporting cast

I agree with the observations that this was one too many Thin Man movies and Powell and Loy's interest had cooled. Also the film could have done completely without the kid (somebody, please cut that boy's hair).

But seeing Gloria Grahame and Keenan Wynn made it worthwhile. She needed to put on a few pounds (and did by '50) but even so she was one of the sexiest babes Hollywood ever had.

But the kid was Dean Stockwell! That's cool, along with seeing a young Audrey Meadows. I agree about Gloria Grahame, wowza!

Agreed that it's the weakest entry in the series, but I still enjoy it. It's a ton of fun even with the aging cast.

VERY solid cast.

Character actors were superb at the time. Now, everyone wants to be the star.

That was Jayne Meadows as Janet Thayar, Audrey's younger sister, and widow of comic/host/musician Steve Allen.

I liked it as much as most of the other films--an 8/10 from me. It's a different kind of film, but they were finding ways to stretch the envelope on the formula a bit, which I enjoyed. I loved the music and got a kick out of the "hepcat" schtick.

Personally, I thought it was still an entertaining film, though not a great one obviously. The supporting cast was fine, though I wished Gloria Grahame's role was larger. Dean Stockwell was one of the cutest and least offensive Hollywood tykes of the period. They even seemed to slightly incorporate some nods to film noir style in this. I would rate this at least as high as "The Thin Man Goes Home" and "Shadow of the Thin Man".

I agree with this. This movie benefits from a strong cast and script. Also, I just enjoy movies from the mid-40's and am happy they continued this series.
