I watched this for the first time a few nights ago. It was really entertaining though I don't think they meant it to be quite as laugh-provoking as it was. The main thing that had me in stitches was the mynah bird - real in close-up shots but oh-so-very-obviously on a string for the long ones. Great late night entertainment though!

True! The mynah bird is meant to be funny, always flying around and squawking out revealing clues at awkward moments, but the fact that it's a fake bird on a string adds to the humor. It sort of fits with the tongue in cheek approach of the whole movie, where everyone is obviously having a good time and not taking any of it too seriously.

Why would you say it wasn't meant to be funny? Its a comedy-adventure from beginning to end, intentionally, and a true classic of the genre.
