In addition to his Directing Oscar for Ordinary People (which is a fantastic movie in case some people have not seen it), he won an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' (AMPAS) Honorary Oscar Award in the Academy's words "for actor, director, producer, creator of Sundance and inspiration to independent and innovative filmmakers everywhere." What a great honor for him, and well deserved.
In December 2005, he received a Kennedy Center Honor for his contributions to American culture. AWESOME!
I'm waiting for him to win the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that one day he will win this prestigious honor because he deserves it!
