Hepburn

"The Sea of Grass" is admittedly a problematic, unsatisfying movie in many ways, and probably made a much superior novel (I haven't read it). I found myself, however, quite liking Katharine Hepburn in it, who gave what I thought was one of her most restrained, subtle performances; this despite being too old for the early scenes and having a markedly Connecticut Yankee accent, as always, for a character from St. Louis. She and Melvyn Douglas, to my mind, did not really strike sparks together, which would have helped matters, but overall she performed with an intelligent delicacy, never going overboard or showboating. Her performance is understated, a word not often associated with her. Its not an undervalued film, but I'd say its an undervalued Hepburn performance.

This is my favorite Katharine Hepburn performance for the reasons you state:

Granted, this isn't a great movie, but Hepburn's performance draws me back to watching it over and over again.
