He, that is the man who stole Maurice Martineau's car, Paulo, shot Brignon after she had hit the victim. Paulo dropped in later after she had left. I think he explains that at the police station or the inspector (a terrific performance by Louis Jouvet BTW ) deduces it.

Hi,

Thanks for passing by. I have been waiting here since long!! Now my question is about shot - she did not shoot the man; she simply hit him. He died because of shot. Or is it like till the end she never knew (never mentione in front of her) that the guy was shot (and hence killed)? May be I missed it because of subtitles.

No, she did not shoot the man (Brignon). And yes, he died because he was shot by Paulo. That's how I see it anyway.

Two questions:

1) How is it that Paulo came to shoot Brignon?
He stole the car when Maurice was there.
Then what did he do, drive away and return to where he stole the car,s ee the door open and go in? Makes no sense that he would return to where he stole the car, unless I'm missing something.

2) How is it that none of the principal accused read that Brignon was shot to death? This seems to be a big case, semi-famous victim, and many reporters.
When the Inspector comes to see Dora, she knows about the blonde hair found at the scene of the crime, presumably from the papers.

The wrap-up isn't too important, as it is an atmospheric film with great characters. But those funny little points did strike me as a bit off.

I would have to re-watch the film - which at some stage I will do - in order to reply to your questions. Sorry.

Nope. Jenny hit Brignon, she left. Paulo saw the door open, break in, shot Brigon, hid outside and then stole Maurice's car.

I totally agree with you : )

Yes, Paolo tells the police he checked the door of the house, because, he says, "You never know." So it was a crime of opportunity.

For a moment I was wondering why he would shoot an unconscious man, but then of course I realized that Brignon might have recovered from the little bump on the head that Jenny gave him and been walking around and surprised the thief, Paolo.

When Maurice arrived at Brignon's house, he found the dead body. Paolo had just left, and stole Maurice's car to make his getaway.
