does it get better?

French films of this period are so slow. I've seen a number of Clouzot's films, but it really takes him a while to build up momentum. I've tried to watch this one several times, but have always lost interest. To those who finished it: what is worth paying attention to in this film, and, if you did enjoy it, why?
