I like Loretta Young, but...

how in the hell she won the Oscar over Joan Crawford that year is beyond me. I think Joan gives the greatest performance of her career in this film and that she was the most Oscar-worthy in The Academy's 1947 Best Actress lineup.

Joan was sadly robbed we all know that. I think the main reason is because she won two years before.

She's one of the most overlooked hollywood actresses of all time, only 3 oscars nominations for easily more than 10 oscars worthy performances (I doesn't even counts her wonderful performances in silent movies...), what a shame !

I also can't understand the hate toward her on IMDB (but there are a billion things here that I can't understand) and the "she's not a true actress only a movie star" stupid statment (especially from some insecures B. Davis fans) why it's so difficult to love both ? Joan is flat out awesome, it's a fact !

I just saw Possessed. Loretta Young was charming in The Farmers Daughter especially her swedish accent. Joan Crawford's performance was wonderful, but she had just won two years previously for Mildred Pierce - a superior movie. Loretta, also a very good actress, had never won. Also Possessed was probably too dark.

Blah, blah, blah (yawn). Beware of the self-righteous; they always have a skeleton in their closet.

The Oscar is really for a body of work, most of the time. You usually win for the wrong role.

1947 was the year of Oscar's "Big Upset" for Best Actress. All bets were on Rosalind Russell for "Mourning Becomes Electra" and she was already halfway out of her seat when Fredrick March tore open the envelope and announced Loretta Young, who no one thought would win, as the victor.

Consider, too, that Deborah Kerr wasn't even nominated for "Black Narcissus". Arguably, the best performance by an actress that year, in my opinion.

And the actress who played the nutty nun definitely deserved a Best Supporting Actress nom!
