I love these 1940-1950's movie bios! They get so much wrong but that's what makes them so fun to watch. Betty Hutton is great in this movie, but the 1940's style music used for this movie set in the 1910's is really funny! Pearl White was an interesting character who, like many movies stars of her era, died young, just 49, of alcoholism in 1938. So sad.................

Agreed on those decades and that genre. The biopic is my favorite genre (and it usually wins at the Oscars). It's biopic month on TCM... that's why Perils of Pauline is showing. You should check out their website and see the massive list of other movies playing. Yeah, I guess a true story of Pearl White would have been too much of a downer (for a musical at least).

This will be on TCM January 25th at 12:00am Central (a.k.a. the night of the 24th), so hopefully I'll finally get to see it for the first time since the '90s.

Greetings from New Orleans. We were enjoying film very much but I nodded off just when doctors told her... What happens next? I don't remember how it ends. Billy DeWolf is divine in this. Good looking man!

Hi VValkyrie,

The doctors give Pearl the news that with surgery and therapy she may eventually walk again, and they want to perform the surgery immediately.
Pearl says she can't go to the hospital yet, she has a date to meet Mike Farrington.
Everyone objects strongly, but Pearl is adamant. She asks to get a makeover, and asks Timmy to carry her to the car when it's time.
Pearl meets Mike as planned (looking gorgeous) although she can't walk and therefore does not get out of the car.
Pearl tells Mike she's over him and doesn't love him any more, and he walks away. She does not tell him of her accident. She tells Timmy that was her best performance, and no one saw it.
As Timmy and Pearl's car pulls away, Julia calls Mike over to her car and tells him to get in quickly.
On the way to the hospital, Pearl drives by a theater and sees posters for The Perils of Pauline. She convinces Timmy to carry her into the theater to see it once more for old times sake.
While in the theater, Pearl hears a voice say that she's a terrible actress, and that she still can't act...the voice is Mike's.
They embrace and kiss, and Mike carries Pearl out of the theater.

The End
