The Paradine Case - Hitchcock's interest

I think one of Hitchcock's interests about the film was its a study on a nymphomaniac like Mrs. Paradine. And how the society viewed Mrs. Paradine. Instead of Treating Mrs. Paradine, the jury punished her as a murderer.

Look the connection between Mrs. Paradine (Valli) and Lord Horfield (Charles Laughton). Mrs. Paradine is a nymphomaniac. Same thing with Charles Laughton's character Lord Horfield. He is a Satyromaniac. For Example, take the scene where Charles Laughton (Horfield) looks at Ann Todd's shoulder.

. . . remember though, sony----Gay lets Horfield make passes at her . . . in no way does she stop it!

reply

That's true.

reply

Is it?

reply

Well, she eventually, perhaps at first not knowing how do deal with the situation, broke off and walked away.

Or, Gay knows how to play politics . . . doesn't hurt to be nice to the ole guy . . . could help advance her husband's legal career . . . Horfield was a prominent jurist . . .

reply

Certainly, more likely than not, that was in her mind.
