The Other Love - the original ending was cut

It is not surprising that the ending of the film seems like an anti climax. The audience is prepared to see Barbara Stanwycks character die and I have news for fans of this film, she did in the original uncut version that I saw on its release in 1947. When I next saw it when it was reissued in 1954 the ending was cut and that seems to be the only version that is around now. Even Barbara Stanwyck was horrified when she saw it on TV, she said it made the lead up to the climax make her look stupid, as she had been speaking in a breathless fashion as she was about to die. I am always hoping that the full version might turn up one day, just like the uncut version of Baby Face that has surfaced after 70 years.

...OK , I was going to post this based on this information which I had picked up at Delphi's Classic Movies board ( Actually , is that you , Ray_Skin ? ) , but there's " straight from the horse's mouth ":-)...Apparently , the 1947 cut is lost .

Thank you! That explains the completely unexpected and abrupt ending.

I just watched it and I would have loved to have seen the original ending. The ending did seem very anti-climatic.

Its obvious she died while her husband played the piano, I found more disturbing Gilbert Rolands part ,it was cut down to a bit part and it made no sense .

Fourth billing and he...what? He watches them gamble then comes out of the shadows to rape her or something. Then she bribes him not to rape her and help her travel? I'm still puzzled over it.

That wasn't Paul, that was the croupier from the casino.

Not to me. I certainly agree it's a possibility though.

You're my wife now.

What is the uncut version of "Baby Face"? I've seen this movie several times in which it ends w/Jeanne Simmons and Robert Mitchum going over the cliff in a spots car. What is the alternative ending? Didn't even realize there was one.
