The Oustanding Father Tom and Shell

Movie girl: Odd Man Out is one of my favorite films, with the superb James Mason and the rest of the cast.

While watching the film, I was deeply impressed by F. J. McCormick and W. G. Fay. They played their parts superbly.

Though Shell is revealed as a human scavenger who hopes to make money by turning in fugitive Johnny McQueen, he is somehow chastened when he views the bodies of Johnny and Kathleen. As Father Tom and Shell walk away from the scene, we see a perplexed and saddened expression on Shell's face. He is comforted by the priest who lays a hand on his shoulder. If the story were true one would hope that Shell gets his precious particle of faith by learning about the church and religious conversion by Father Tom. Perhaps he assists Father Tom in passing out tracts to the congregation and is reformed by helping others.

I was very saddened to read that both fine actors died in 1947, not long after the film was released.
