An outstanding character actor, I loved his portrayal of Moose Malloy in 'Murder, My Sweet'(1944); and enjoyed his work immensely in this as well.
Apparently he was a gentleman and a class act; wish I'd known him...

Yeah, I can't think of anything where I didn't like his portrayal...Night and The City was also wonderful, as was Murder My Sweet, as you mentioned...
