Night unto Night (1949)

Not quite "WHERE IS THE REST OF ME" but "The Prez's" acting talents seen at their very best. A totally convincing performance, in an all but forgotten film.

A completely opposite opinion was posted by Neil Doyle under the film's IMDb "comments." "A forgettable item among Reagan's resume at Warner Bros. ... RONALD REAGAN seems to be sleepwalking through a role he clearly doesn't comprehend."

I have not seen the film. I was curious about it because Vivicor Lindfors' last film, "It Happened Last Summer in the Hamptons," contains a clip from "Night Unto Night."

this film sucked..plain an simple.

It actually made a lot more sense than some other classic films with higher ratings. The ending was too abrupt and could've been written better, but everything up to that point kept me interested, so I give it a thumbs up.

I thought Reagan did a very good job. He actually nailed the role of a scientist, which really surprised me.

If this had been a major Hollywood film I suppose more well-known actors might have been cast (I kept seeing Ingrid Bergman in the lead actress role). But all the actors in the leads roles did good jobs, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable B movie.

The most intriguing aspect of this forgettable film has to do with the voice of Broderick Crawford. I could swear his entire performance was dubbed --- his distinctive voice is NOT the voice I heard last night when I watched his film. How could I find out?

reply

I disagree. I thought Crawford completely sounded like himself. He was not playing a tough guy or Chief Mathews in Highway Patrol (which is how I became familiar with him as a kid!). I always liked seeing him in "softer," more thoughtful roles, showing another dimension to his acting abilities. I enjoyed him in this film. It was an oddball film; thought the cinematography was great, and even didn't mind Ronnie in it! But, then again, I'm a fan of oddball films... I appreciate TCM making it available for streaming.
