At the end Bob Hope is in the warden's office. Carlotta/Dorothy walks in and tells Bob that she's explained everything and he's now a free man. The kicker is that the warden then tells the executioner that the execution is off. The executioner turns around and we see that it's Bing Crosby, who throws his hat on the floor in disgust and storms off.

yes, that's apparent, but i want know what it is that she explained, esp. how it is that collin's is alive.there's a lot of plot that i didn't understand throughout the film, and the fact that collins is still alive is one of the most mystifying things to me.

Collins is NOT alive, he is still dead. But his death is explaine, clearing Bob.

The situation was explained about the bad guys, along with photgraphic proof (negative from chinese kid's mom) that they were ndeed the bad guys.

Therefore Bob was cleared of the murder and prsumably the bad guys were apprehended.

It's not Collins who's still alive, it's the Baron Montay ... the real one that is.

At least I'm pretty sure that's what was going on.

In the end--the conclusion was not one bit believable--except for the part about the negative proving something about reality... But it all required a HUGE willing suspension of disbelief.
