Film has some nice Chaplinesque "silent" touches

Even though this is a "talkie" film, I like how Chaplin sprinkled the film with a few physical comedic gags that seemed as if they were pulled from some of his silent movies of 20 or 30 years prior.

Even though he never did another silent picture after Modern Times, you could see the influence of it in all his talkies including his very last film, King in New York (1957). The irony is that he turned out to have a nice speaking voice, but he was clearly more comfortable as a silent performer, which explains why he took longer than any other silent-era filmmaker to let go of the form.
