DA Thomas Mara neglects to buy son Tommy a genuine football helmet in time for Christmas. I remember seeing the original movie where Tommy does in fact get his football helmet and father Thomas Mara realizes that Kris must have delivered the gift to Tommy. There are references in the movie but I think they cut the scene where Tommy actually gets his football helmet from Kris Kringle. Can anyone validate this for me?

I've been watching this version since I was a kid and I have never seen that scene you're speaking of. I also have the DVD and that scene isn't in it.
