A Holiday Classic

Such a great holiday film with a subtle criticism of how the meaning of Christmas has been commercialized. Great acting by all but re-makes to shame as the film was perfect as original except for being filmed in black & white. A heartwarming film in the category of It's A Wonderful Life.

You were doing fine until the " except for being filmed in black & white " part.

Shulma, I agree with all you said except for the part about black & white. That doesn't hurt it at all.

Tonight I caught a minute or so of the colorized version on AMC and thought it hard to concentrate because it looked so hokey. The people getting ready for the parade were all in bright colors, while the background characters and buildings appeared to only be in shades of gray. Each of the people in color appeared to have exactly the same hue to their skin. It looked comically surreal.

I like this one and the 1994 version. Also a TV movie called 'Defending Santa' which uses the same story.

This wasn't the best conversion to color, but I prefer the colorized version anyway. I'd like to see them try again. I've seen more recent colorization efforts that were excellent.

Color or not, probably my favorite Christmas movie.
