Couldn't Kris have explained his deception to the Bellevue doctors?

I find it hard to believe that the doctors would turn a deaf ear to his explanation, and a request to retake the exam. He had a history of taking them and passing them with no problem.

In a perfect world, maybe...but think about it. If you're in a mental institution, and a patient comes up to you and says, "By the way, I'm really not crazy--I was only pretending because I was angry with a friend!"...what would you think?
Factor in Kris's "history of violence" that the psychiatrist lied about, and it's not surprising that they couldn't just tell the doctors he was faking it all.
