WHY WOULD VINNIE CARE?

The basic gist of this story is Vinnie's attempts to get Clarence baptized so that they can be together after death.
But why would anyone want to be with that boorish bully, either on earth or in the afterlife? He's too stuck up to even kneel in church!
Vinnie should consider herself lucky to be forever rid of him!

BTW, I'm not Christian, so I can't understand how the rite of baptism means an automatic entry to Heaven without any consideration of how the person lived his life on earth.
I bet Adolf Hitler was baptized as a baby; can anyone honestly believe he's with the angels?
I hope someone can enlighten me on this.

Vinnie explained it when she told him to get baptized. She said she would miss him. Even though he seems to be boorish bully, she loves him and he loves her.

Also consider the time period this was set in...Back around the turn of the century, if you weren't baptized it was a BIG Deal! People just believed that. In fact, if you committed suicide, you would not be buried in a church yard (sin of self murder which is an immortal sin) In some countries, where some adapted the superstitions in the US, if you were a murdered victim you would not have a church burial because your spirit is not at rest.

And a proper wife at that time---specially high society would not raise a voice to there husbands. But to be serious, Vinnie did get annoyed once in awhile and even displayed weird logic with the household accounts, did know how to confuse and bamboozle him. and it's true---both did care for another

The Days were Episcopalian and infant baptism is a rite of the denomination. I was raised in the Southern Baptist denomination which does not believe in baptizing infants. Baptism is not required to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only one thing is required and that is to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior.

Also.his bark was worse than his bite.

I'm surprised at how many viewers miss the point that Clarence, Sr. is loving and lovable, in spite of his bark and bluster.
