Hi everyone,
I'm researching Point of View movies and was wondering if any film historians out there know of similar examples. There are lots of films that have extended P.O.V scenes in them, but do you know of any films (or indeed other media), where the whole experience is shot in P.O.V.
There's a current TV sitcom in the UK called Peep Show, which makes use of this technique, but I'm struggling to think of any other examples.
Any pointers greatfully received.

Another portion of a movie that used 1st person point of view is the movie "Halloween" where Michael Meyers as a child is the camera. All you can see is the knife. While watching the movie it seems like you are the killer! I think other horror movies might have this, but this is one that comes to mind! Hope this helps! :)
shareIn other media - Video Games. They are the only media that I can think of that consistently uses extensive first person point of view. If you're writing on it you should probably bring them up... but I'm probably also too late.

THOMAS EST AMOUREUX (thomas in love) is a Belgian film completely shot from the point of view of the main character, whom we never see. Actually, the audience is constantly looking at the computer screen the main character is also looking at. I'm wrting a paper about this film right now. Great film.
Other films that employ this technique (just scenes):
- AVALON (if i remember correctly the virtual scenes are POV's)
- STRANGE DAYS
- SMACK MY BITCH UP videoclip by THE PRODIGY
- BEING JOHN MALKOVICH (inside his head)
- HOLLOW MAN (the rape scene)

I also forgot "Muhammad: The Last Prophet" it's an animated movie done about the life of Muhammed from Muhammad's point of view because you cannot give visual representation of him. I believe the entire movie is point of view.

I don't think "Hollow Man" should count, as the character is invisible, not that it's from his point of view. i mean, there are a few shots here and there that are arguably from his perspective, but no more than a normal flick. As the seen goes, it's at a normal camera angle when it would be following a character which is what makes it interesting...

I know you said whole experience, which Dark Passage is not. But that one is a significant chunk.
Woody Allen sometimes used the subjective camera. Psycho had a little. The opening of Saving Private Ryan. A few TV shows. All I can think of are bit examples. The technique is often called "subjective camera", maybe google can be of better help.
Brian De Palma uses it a lot in most of his films (blow out, the black dahlia, carlito's way, the untouchables, etc)
shareMichael Powell's Peeping Tom, while not actually 1st person, contains scenes from the killer's point of view as he holds a camera. If you're researching point of view, I would definitely recommend that one.
Not a bad flick, either.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931) opens with an extended 1st person view scene and it works fine. It's just used as a setup for the rest of the movie - it doesn't feel gimmicky.
shareThere is a Humphrey Bogart & Lauren Bacall Movie that uses POV. Bogert is an escaped convict and the first half of the film you don't see his face (except in a newspaper picture) it's all from his POV. Then he has plastic surgery and "becomes" bogart and you see him normally and POV ends. I can't remember the name, but look up Bogart & Bacall and you'll be able to cross reference and see which one it is. Agnes Moorhead is also in it which should help you find which one it is. Not a bad little film either. Good luck with your research.
