Why would she hide her purse in the clock??? she could have easily taken it with her when she went out and dumped it ANYWHERE! stupid plot turn

She didn't want to risk being caught or even seen with it. She had a housekeeper so she could leave it at home with her things. The powder may have been obvious and could have been spread around. If she tried leaving with it, it might be too obvious. Women in those days didn't go around with oversized totes or extra bags.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

I respectfully and completely disagree with you. First off, it was a small bag, not an over-sized tote. Second, her walking out of the house with it. after the murder, would be no more suspicious than the first time she walked out of the house with it, before the murder. In fact, her not using it at all anymore would be much more suspicious.

The movie fell down here, but the book seemed to indicate that the answer was simple. You can read about that in my post in the other thread: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0039504/board/thread/226942619?d=253691803#253691803

___Well, of course it now seems ludicrous to put the purse there, yes, she should have easily been able to dispose of such incriminating evidence. However, then there would have been no story graduation. And, I seriously doubt the inspector would have so easily found it, or even known to look for it.
