Contradiction

When Danny tells Nick that he didn't get the job he wanted at the music publishing company, he claims it's because he had to audition, and he couldn't because he gets nervous and can't sing in front of strangers. That's all well and good, except that at least twice before in the film, Danny has sung in front of strangers. He sings the opening bars of "Whose Baby Are You?" at the party in England with a lot of strangers around. Then later, he joins in with Anne's music class in singing the "Bach" number, who are all strangers to him.

He could sing when he got carried away by the music in the moment. For instance, with the kids he had his eyes shut as if feeling one with the music. And he had to be more or less bludgeoned into singing at the party but once he started he was fine. That's totally different from being judged at an audition or by an audience.
