Were we supposed to like Kerr's character?

It's obvious that Deborah Kerr is supposed to be viewed sympathetically as the female lead, but I found Nona to be wholly unlikable. First she dumps Walter Pidgeon and marries another man, and then when she tires of her husband she just shows up, ready to take up her relationship with Pidgeon again. It seems to trouble her not one bit that she is cheating on her husband, and Pidgeon is cheating on his wife. And she's so blatant about it showing up at his work to take him on a picnic - if she cared about him you'd think she would at least care about his reputation and his job.

I found myself feeling for Angela Lansbury, the wife who is trying to provide a good home and who gets no affection from him at all. She's got her faults but you can't blame her for being ticked that her husband is being unfaithful with Kerr (and as far as the town thinks, with Leigh).
