Franchot Tone

They don't make actors like Franchot anymore....not only is his character 23 yrs older than Shirley's in this film-it's something he'd pull off in real life as well.
I'm not certain of the year-but Franchot was mixed up in a love triangle and literally had his head handed to him.Beaten to a pulp and hospitalized, needing plastic surgery. The fisticuffs haunted the remainder of his career.I guess today's Charlie Sheen would come close, personality wise-but Franchot had something no actor around now has-CLASS.

the year was 1951. and i totally agree that he had class, unlike many actors today.

That’s interesting. You say he was mixed up in a love triangle involving someone much younger; he was beaten to a pulp; he had a personality like Charlie Sheen and yet he had class? I don't get it.

I've always enjoyed Mr. Tone as an actor. He's in quite a few movies I've enjoyed and many of the characters he’s played could be described as having class. However, the things you mention that happened in his personal life, alone or together, are hardly characteristic of someone with class.

You may argue they were not his doing; outside his control; or of which he was a victim but it's not clear that was the case. The one left standing didn't necessarily start the fight. That same year, Tone went on to marry the woman over whom he had received that beating. To me, that shows poor judgment. People with class tend to have good judgment and are able to avoid situations like the ones you describe.
