Won Oscar for Best Effects, Special Effects in 1948
I found the earthquake scene to be quite unexpected and terrifyingly real. I even hit the rewind to watch it a few times. I can understand why it won an Oscar for Best Effects, Special Effects.
The entire scene wasn't even necessary in my opinion and the movie would have worked without it. I wonder how the director sold the idea of spending $500,000 needed to create a realistic earthquake. The results were well worth it even by today's standards.
