What about "The Ghost and Mrs Muir" as an opera?

I'm not much of an opera fan but I love this story and the music. What if someone took the musical themes created by Bernard Herrmann and turned this movie into an opera. I'll bet it would be terrific.

If they can do an opera about Nixon in China, why not this?

Never thought about it as a real opera, but it has been produced twice as a musical. I have the recordings. I wasn't overly impressed with them, but maybe it would be different if I could have actually seen the productions on stage.

How sad, that you were not born in my time, nor I, in yours.

As long as the music would be expressive and melodically beautiful, not like this arbitrary modern junk "composed" today wrongly referred to as opera. I remember some music in it reminded me of some familiar operatic melodies and as I am a big Puccini fan, it might be Omiobabbinocaro. The tablet won't let me write it correctly, sorry.

Herrman used some of the themes from this movie for his own opera of WUTHERING HEIGHTS.

Wow. I never knew Herrman wrote an opera. But if he used the themes from this film for it I guess my instincts were right, it would be good opera.

I have heard it was done as a musical and i would like to have seen that whether it was good or bad.
