Something I’ve been wondering (possible spoiler)…

When Willie the Giant walks off into the night at the end of the film, the Hollywood Sign can be seen blinking in the distance. The sign originally read “Hollywoodland” from 1923 until 1949, when the “land” was dropped and the blinking light bulbs stopped getting replaced. This film was released in 1947, yet the sign appears (still blinking) without the “land”. The result seems to be a sort of anachronism.

Does anyone know if the sign actually read “Hollywoodland” in the original theatrical release of “Fun & Fancy Free” and the “land” was edited out (a la José Carioca’s cigar) to modernize the landmark for post-1949 releases? That’s the only explanation I can think of, unless the filmmakers predicted or somehow knew the sign would be altered in a couple of years.
