Wow! Can't believe there is a movie in development.
Then again, maybe I can.
Will it be set in the modern era, or the 1940s original?
I read the book, found it in a used book store a long time ago, and yeah - it's a story that could play in almost any era... any era except the last decade or so. Up until the internet it was still possible to move to places that weren't part of the modern world, which is the core of the story, but now you can drag the modern world with you and carry it around in your pocket.

Wow. Didn't they already "remake" it when they did TV's "Green Acres???"
At any rate, this is a film that hasn't aged very well. I mainly loved it due to the incomparable Marjorie Main,
who steals every film she's in! WHO ON EARTH could play Ma Kettle better than Main???
I used to love this film as a kid, but I now find it too sitcom-like, and the central theme of a young wife threatened
by a sexy blonde in a new locale is shopworn to say the least.
I hope it's in the historical setting.
