So...turns out Xanadu was an improvement!

I so wanted to like this, but the plot is dreary and the musical numbers play neither comedically nor at face value (although there are some nice bods on display, both male and female). I ask, how can the movie which inspired that tacky camp classic of 1980 be so forgettable? Just my opinion.

Bad score, low wattage male lead, lifeless script, and despite the technicolor, the whole film still looks cheap.

'Xanadu' is NOT a remake of this film, please stop perpetrating the fiction that it is by comparing the two.

These two films have similar plots but are unrelated!

Aside from the fact that they altered Danny's sir name, and job. Xanadu is more of a sequel to this than a re-make.

It is not more of anything. It is not a sequel, nor a remake. It is unrelated to this film. Maybe it's a rip off, but is not a sequel.

Well, they kind of smushed this movie up with "Cover Girl" - which is directly where you get Danny McGuire, the nightclub manager from.

Still, this isn't a great film - Hayworth was wasted at Columbia, in my opinion - but she's pretty good in it. And it also gives Xanadu a link to "Here Comes Mr. Jordan", "Angel On My Shoulder", and "Heaven Can Wait", which is pretty cool.
