I don't know about the bridge location in this film...but it would obviously be some where in the locale the film was made. I'm also a big fan of this film. It was shown regularly (about every 3-4 months) over a 2 year period in Australia on Fox classics on pay (cable) TV and presented by film critic/presenter/authority Bill Collins (an australian TV icon). Bill Collins often commented on the difficulty in obtaining prints of this film and felt priviliged to be able to show it (incidentally he loved the film). I have a copy of this film on VHS (PAL system) and would like to see it released on DVD. The undercurrents in this film, the look (location and the glorious technicolour)and the superb casting make this a film of more worthy appreciation and recognition as a film noir classic
shareI don't know about the bridge either, but the house that Astor and Scott live in (FABULOUS) is somewhere in suburban L.A. (the valley?) I used to see it a lot on 70s television shows, in particular, an episode of Barnaby Jones (or was it Cannon?). I think it was shot all over the place, because Chuckawalla looks like a real desert town, maybe in Nevada. Look closely at the long shots; Scott didn't go on location, but all the male actors did. That is DEFINITELY not her in the long shots, but a double!
shareTuzigoot is NOT in Nevada, but Arizona; I was there and took a pee.
Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.
Chuckwalla is actually Cottonwood & Clarkdale, AZ. The Bridge to Tuzigoot from Clarkdale has been replaced, the smelter stacks in the background torn down. The stone police station is still there in Cottonwood. Most of the driving scenes were between Sedona & Cottonwood. The ranch house was in Sedona. The big house was in Piru, Ventura CA.
shareWow, thanks for that info! I love this movie, and it answers questions for me. The house has been in a number of television shows and movies.

Does anyone know why Lizabeth didn't go on location?
shareIt says on Wikipedia that the bridge location is the historic old bridge in Piru, California in Ventura County!
shareDerek, you're as good as I. It takes a sharp eye to notice that it's a double for Scott in all the location scenes, while Lancaster, Hodiak, and Corey were all really in the desert. They did an excellent job in the editing, but eagle eyes like us caught it. I thought I was the only one on earth to spot it. I hope we get an answer; of course Miss Scott could tell us (LOL!).

I am really glad they chose to film this in color. The desert scenes are breathtaking in color, not everything looks better in black & white. Film Noir can be done in color and this film proves it...I love Liz's Town & Country Convertible, what a gorgeous car and worth a fortune now!
shareHoohawnaynay, you bet noir can be effective in color! Look at "Slightly Scarlet", or any of the modern noirs that are still coming out. You're right on the mark!

I have seen the Victorian House in Piru, CA...a freind of mine shot a movie there a few years ago...it hasn't changed much!
shareThis is exact - I live in Old Town Cottonwood and am currently writing a column on that old Jail - the Tuzigoot bridge is a few miles up...
Does anyone have a copy of the film- and can let me know what Burt says when he is in or around the Jail??
The bridge AND the Astor/Scott house are, in fact, in Piru, CA. Just Google "Piru mansion," Piru bridge," or "Desert Fury locations" and you'll see lots of photos of the bridge and house.
