This is the movie responsible for the name Holden Caulfield in Catcher in the Rye. Sallinger drove passed the marquee where the movie was playing and saw the names of the stars, and got the idea for the name. Absolutley true

That is true! After viewing the movie on AMC, Robert Osborne said that JD Salinger passed a movie marquee that advertised the movie. In small letters were the first names of the male and female lead; under it were the larger letters of their last names HOLDEN and CAULFIELD.

This story appears not to be true, as the character Holden Caulfield appeared in earlier stories by J.D. Salinger published years before this movie was made. It does make a good story though.
