Madge’s final act (spoiler)

In case you’re wondering whether Madge’s fall was an accident, according to host of Film Noir night on TCM: in the book she jumps out of the window to commit suicide. As a final act of vengeance for Bogue’s rejection of her, she’s basically killing again and pinning yet another murder on him. She takes with her any proof that he’s innocent. Code wouldn’t allow a suicide so they hide the act behind a billowing curtain.
