Dana Andrews character (pet names??)

A total jerk, and the strangest thing about him was how he called others, even men, by the silliest names. Sugar Plum, honey bunch and...lmao...Dewdrop, which is what he called his father-in-law. Who wrote such drivel? At first I thought he just called Daisys friend Honey Bunch, but he also used it when talking to a guy in the restaurant.

Something about that made my chuckle. I loved when his daughter, and even Peter, called him by those same names.

I also thought the pet names were a bit funny but it also helped me to see Dan as the shallow, self-absorbed heel that he was.

I think its funny how many times he uses "baby" when he is talking to Daisy.

I'm surprised someone hasn't suggested he was gay? Andrews was really good and I'm sure he was acting in accordance with-- his domineering director-- Otto Preminger's wishes.

Just a thought, but could Dan be employing the use of silly names when addressing people because he can't be bothered with remembering, or ever finding out, their real names (like the restaurant employee, secretaries ). This would go along with a narcissistic personality.
